Response published: 1 July 2025

FOI Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I would like to request the following information from your organisation: How much was spent on translation and interpretation costs over the last five financial years (2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25)? Please could this data be broken down into a total sum over the five years and also broken down by each financial year. Please can a separate list of the top five languages incurring the highest cost in the financial year 2024/25 also be included, with how much was spent on each language.

Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 092-2025

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.

You asked:

1. How much was spent on translation and interpretation costs over the last five financial years (2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25)? Please could this data be broken down into a total sum over the five years and also broken down by each financial year.

Our response:

Year 2020/2021 2021/2022 2022/2023 2023/2024 2024/2025 Total
Total  £60,828  £116,864  £116,693  £241,690  £261,822  £797,897

You asked:

2. Please can a separate list of the top five languages incurring the highest cost in the financial year 2024/25 also be included, with how much was spent on each language.

Our response:

The top five languages with cost in 2024/2025 is incomplete. We changed supplier in the second half of the year and part of that tender was to gain better knowledge of the language split. Therefore we can supply the top 5 languages for the last 6 months of the year as below.

Language Total Cost
 Polish  £12,842
 Czech  £11,197
 Arabic  £9,439
 Albanian  £4,526
 Dari  £4,337
