Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 096-2026
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.
You asked:
Does your NHS trust provide any mental health services for under 18 year olds (e.g. CAMHS)?
Our response:
Yes.
You asked:
What is the age brackets for the mental health services for young people before they move to adult services (for example 0-18 year olds or 0-25 years old)?
Our response:
0 to 18 as standard. One team (Young Adults Service) provides a service age 16 to 25 years. The YAS team has 5 staff for the county, their remit is to support Young People who may otherwise fall between gaps in services at the point of transition. The team is co-located with a VCS organisation whom provide a range of youth support type activities. Young people don’t have to have received care within CAMHS to meet the team remit.
You asked:
What do you call this service (for example Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) or if there is a specific name you use)?
Our response:
There are multiple teams of various sizes. Most children will be seen within either our Mental Health Support Team in schools called ‘Young Minds Matter’ or our ‘Core CAMHS’ team which provides the equivalent of a level 3 type service using past descriptors. There are some very small teams who have a specific remit to support children with specific vulnerabilities or needs eg CAMHS Youth Justice team. All fall under the umbrella of ‘Children and Young People Service’ (CYPS) Mental Health. The term CAMHS is commonly used.
You asked:
What methods of referral do you accept (for example- referrals from GPs/schools)?
Our response:
Referrals for Young Minds matter are made primarily by schools, however GPs can refer via the Nav Hub. YMM also accepts self referrals via OYMG ( all ages) and YMMChat text service ( Secondary age CYP ). Referrals for Core CAMHS can be made by any professional who knows the child using the on line referral form. Some GPs will supply a bespoke form available on Ardens/ G-Care. Children and families can also self refer to Core as below.
You asked:
Are self referrals an option? If so what are the requirements (e.g. minimum age)?
Our response:
Self referrals for Young Minds Matter and Core CAMHS are accepted and there is no minimum age. Core CAMHS self referrals are through on your mind support finder tool.
You asked:
What is your method of advising patients of appointments (e.g. text/post)?
Our response:
Core CAMHS- Primarily by letter with text back up for initial appointments, there after may be verbally at an appointment, by letter or by text or phone call depending on agreement with child/ family. YMM informs parents /CYP of the appointments based on the preference noted on the referral form but otherwise initially use text, email or phone call and if no response then send a letter.
