Dear Freedom of Information Officer, I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am a Research Associate for a Consultant Psychiatrist in the NHS, and this request forms part of academic research looking at how NHS mental health trusts approach the governance of artificial intelligence. As advocates for mental health, we hope this research will contribute to the evidence base that helps mental health trusts secure the funding they need. I would be grateful if you could provide copies of the following, where they are held: 1. Any current policy, procedure, standard operating procedure, framework or guidance document governing the use of artificial intelligence, including generative AI and large language models, ideally with the document reference number and version where these are readily available. I appreciate that AI may not have its own dedicated document; if it is instead addressed within your information governance, data protection, acceptable use of IT, email and internet, or clinical safety policies, the relevant policy or policies would be very helpful, and there is no need to pinpoint the specific section if that is not straightforward. If no such policy exists, it would be useful to know whether one is currently in draft, if that information is recorded. 2. Any register, inventory or list of artificial intelligence systems currently deployed or being piloted by the Trust. I am very happy for any security-sensitive details to be redacted. 3. The terms of reference of any group, board, committee or design authority with responsibility for artificial intelligence governance, along with the minutes of its two most recent meetings. 4. Any guidance the Trust holds on the use of artificial intelligence, including ambient voice technology or AI scribing, with patients who may lack capacity to consent. The Trust holds one corporate guidance document relating to artificial intelligence, namely the AI Policy referenced in response to Question 1.

The Trust does not hold any specific guidance relating to the use of artificial intelligence, ambient voice technology or AI scribing with patients who may lack capacity to consent.
