Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 327-2025
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.
You asked:
1. Do you know how many children in your area have a diagnosis of autism and have turned to your service for help? Out of those numbers how many have been discharged without any long-term treatment? (Long term as defined as individual treatment spanning more than 3 and up to 12 clinical and therapeutic sessions over several months).
2. How many children with autism currently receive ongoing and longer-term individual (by which I mean a combination of long-term medication and or therapy/counselling or both) within your service and how many of these have been funded by your service to receive treatment elsewhere?
Our Response:
Our clinical systems hold information relating to patients on their individual electronic patient record, including assessments and working or confirmed diagnoses. These records are visible to all healthcare professionals who have a legitimate relationship with the patient, so that they can further support the patient with their care. The records are confidential and cannot be shared with third party providers, family or friends without a suitable lawfulness being in place.
CAMHS offers a range of support to patients and each individual clinical record will detail the level of need that has been identified, as well as the treatment pathway offered at the time. However, as previously advised, CAMHS does not record the overall number of children who have been diagnosed with a specific condition or illness nor does CAMHS record the number of children and young people receiving post diagnostic support.
