FOI Response

Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 306-2025

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.

You asked:

1. For your adult eating disorder service from January 2025-November 2025 what were the BMI of inpatients and community patients with an eating disorder at the time they were discharged?

Our response:

22.47

Note:

  • Patients can have more than one BMI reading recorded, therefore the latest BMI recording per patients has been used.
  • Not all patients would need BMI recorded at discharge.
  • There could be additional BMI’s recorded in the notes section of the clinical system, which cannot be easily extracted.
  • The information provided is for community patients.  The service is an all age service.
  • Number less than 5 have been masked to prevent deductive disclosure.

You asked:

2. For your adult eating disorder service in 2025 how many inpatients and community patients with an eating disorder were discharged with a BMI of under 15?

Our response:

Less than 5.

You asked:

3. For your Children’s eating disorder service what was the weight for height percentage of inpatients and community patients with an eating disorder at the time they were discharged between January 2025 and November 2025?

Our response:

The Trust does not hold the information requested in a way that can be extracted from our Electronic Patient Record systems.

You asked:

4. For your Children’s eating disorder service in 2025 how many inpatients and community patients with an eating disorder were discharged at a weight for height of less than 75 ?

Our response:

The Trust does not hold the information requested in a way that can be extracted from our Electronic Patient Record systems.

You asked:

5. At point of discharge if patients had a BMI of under 15, or equivalent to weight for height of less than 75, where were your patients discharged to between January 2025 and November 2025? (for both adults and children)

Our response:

Neither acceptance into the service or discharge are defined by a BMI. If for example someone was discharged this may be as weight has stabilised and this falls in range with a chronic presentation. Others may be discharged to a more appropriate team if an Eating Disorder not being presented but were the weight loss is driven by another type of disordered eating.

You asked:

6. In your adult and children’s eating disorder service what treatment is offered to inpatient and community patients who had a BMI of under 15, or equivalent to weight for height of less than 75 between January 2025 and November 2025?

Our response:

We would not offer treatment that is specific to BMI, the course however of the treatment may extend based on the persons weight. Treatment we offer as a standard is Family Based Treatment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced for Adolescents, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Enhanced for Adults and re-feeding treatment when necessary. In addition we will also use Intensive Clinical Management with the RHED team to seek to stabilise weight for Treatment then discharge.
