Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 274-2025

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.

You asked:

Total number of patients that have been referred to or visited your trust for treatment where they have been assessed as meeting the diagnostic criteria for Binge Eating Disorder (BED) (e.g. ICD-10 code F50.81 or equivalent); 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025

Our response:

Report Date Range – 01 January 2020 to 31 October 2025

Note:  The clinical system does not have an option to record a diagnosis code of F50.81.  Therefore, the confirmed diagnoses of F50.8 other eating disorders or F50.9 eating disorder unspecified have been extracted.  We have only included referrals where a diagnosis has been recorded as confirmed.  There may be people that have been referred where the condition is apparent or suspected but has not been recorded as confirmed.  The eating disorder services works with BEAT, an eating disorder charity, who offer the Momentum programme.  Those who appear to hold the characteristics of a binge eating disorder and are without a risk profile or additional behaviours can be referred to the Momentum programme.
