Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 406-2025
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below.
You asked:
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding the administration of injections to patients without their consent within the Trust.
Specifically, I request the following information for the period 1 January 2020 – 15 March 2025:
1. The total number of times patients were administered injections without their consent and the date of any such cases.
Our response:
The Trust does not hold the information requested.
You asked:
2. A breakdown of the medications administered (e.g., antipsychotics, sedatives) in these cases.
Our response:
The medications with use for rapid tranquillisation are Haloperidol, Lorazepam and Promethazine predominantly, occasionally Olanzapine is used.
You asked:
3. The legal authority under which these injections were administered.
Our response:
The Trust cannot respond to this question as it would involve extensive manual trawl through records in order to determine specific mental health act section.
A manual search and collation of the information would exceed £450. Under section12(1) this cost limit is equivalent to 18 hours work calculated at a rate set by law at £25 per hour.
The Trust would only know how much it would charge for the work after carrying it out.
You asked:
4. The number of incidents where rapid tranquilization was used and the date of any such cases.
Our response:
The Trust started to collect the data for Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust at the beginning of April 2020, when systems were merged, so the date range that the data is based on, is for the period: 01/04/2020 to 15/03/2025.

You asked:
5. Any policy documents or guidelines used by the Trust regarding the administration of injections without consent.
