FOI Response

Freedom of Information Request – Ref: FOI 003-2023
Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find our response below:
The children and young peoples’ ADHD pathway is a multiagency pathway in Gloucestershire. Referrals
for children aged under 11 are managed by the community paediatrics service, which is outside of NHS
Gloucestershire Health and Care Foundation Trust GHC.. Referrals for children and young people
aged over 11 are managed by the GHC children and adolescent mental health service CAMHS.. GHC
CAMHS is currently working with commissioners to develop a county wide strategy for the new 0 to 18-
year olds neurodevelopmental pathway. In 2024 we plan to have one team providing both ADHD and
autism spectrum disorder ASD. assessments to all 0 to 18-year olds, as well as post diagnostic
support. The ADHD pathway is currently under development to ensure that it is in line with NICE
guidelines.
A1. Do you use screening before referring children to be assessed for ADHD?
Yes. We use screening by experienced clinicians and use tools such as Conner and QB test.
A2. If yes, when did you introduce screening?
Screening processes have been in place for a long time and we cannot give a precise start date.
A3. For the years 2020,2021 and 2022 please provide the following broken down by calendar
year.
i. Number of individuals who received screening.
ii. Number of individuals who were then referred for assessment.
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide the data requested at the current time. This is because the
ADHD pathway for over 11-year olds is currently provided by the general CAMHS team. Within our
reporting system it is not possible to identify those receiving screening and those waiting for an ADHD
assessment.
B1. Do you use screening before referring Adults to be assessed for ADHD.
Yes
B2. If yes what year did you introduce screening.
The ADHD /ASC service has triaged referrals since the service began.
All ADHD/ASC referrals are screened and then triaged by a fully qualified ADHD Nurse. Often referrals
require further information so these are directed to other qualified MH nurses who help the
individual/referrer further complete the details so the specialist service can make an informed decision.
Sometimes during that conversation, it becomes very clear that the individual does not require the
ADHD/ASC assessment or support but would be better served by a MHICT nurse or the
Gloucestershire NHS Talking Therapies Service. Under the auspices of, No Wrong Door, the individual
is then supported to the right support.
B3. For the years 2020,2021 and 2022 please provide the following broken down by calendar
year.
i. Number of individuals who received screening.
ii. Number of individuals who were then referred for assessment.
We do not hold the information
