FOI Request

I want to ask about something that has been bothering me for a long time I am a person from Morocco and am currently in the UK, and I have a brother who suffers from psychological problems and maybe mental, it seems that he suffers from bipolar disorder We have tried to treat him in my country of origin, but the level of psychiatry is fragile, so I want to bring him to the United Kingdom, especially to your hospital, to receive treatment due to your excellent reputation for your services in psychiatry, and my inquiry is about: Is there follow-up and treatment of bipolar cases for expatriates? And if yes, what are the necessary procedures for a treatment visa in the UK with treatment fees for expatriates?

FOI Response

Thank you for your request regarding NHS Treatment for Overseas visitors. The NHS operates a residence-based healthcare system and most NHS services are free to people who are ordinarily resident in the UK. Ordinarily resident means living in the UK on a lawful and properly settled basis for the time being, and you’ll be asked to prove this in order to access NHS Services. As such, you brother will need to apply for a VISA or Indefinite Right to Remain in order to receive treatment. The following links from NHS England and Gov.uk set out the various immigration statuses that grant a patient access to NHS Services:
Moving to England from outside the European Economic Area EEA. – NHS www.nhs.uk.
Visitors from outside the European Economic Area EEA. – NHS www.nhs.uk.
Family visas: apply, extend or switch: Overview – GOV.UK www.gov.uk.
Unfortunately we are unable to support you during the VISA application process, however the GOV.uk website will be able to direct you to appropriate immigration agencies that will be able to advise and guide you on the process.
