Dear Freedom of Information Officer,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am an undergraduate student conducting research for my major study project, researching access to NHS Mental Health Services for young people experiencing homelessness.

Specifically, I am requesting anonymised data regarding service users who meet the following criteria:

1. Age range: 18 to 24 years.

2. Accommodation status: Those identified as NOT living in homeless supported accommodation, such as (but not limited to):
• Living with parents
• Living with friends
• Living alone
• Living with family

3. Time period: From 1 January 2020 to the most recent available data.

I would be grateful if the information could include the following, presented in aggregate/anonymised form:

• The number of individuals aged 18–24 each year since 2020 who were identified as living in homeless supported accommodation (as defined above).
• If available, a breakdown by year (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 to date).

I am not seeking any personal or identifiable information. I only require anonymised, aggregated data.

If it is not possible to provide the information in full due to cost or other limitations, please provide as much of the requested information as possible within the cost limits of the Act.

If it is easier to send over data regarding all contact from 18 – 24 year olds during the time period I am also happy to filter through the anonymised data and extract the relevant accommodation types – I want to make it as easy as possible for whoever handles my request.

Definition of Scope: For the purposes of this request, “communications” refers to any function or team managed, hosted, or funded through the Trust’s structures (including work performed for Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), regional partnerships, or shared service models) that encompasses:

Internal or external communications functions;

Marketing and brand management (where these sit within the communications structure).

Definition of Personnel: For the purposes of this request, the term “agency” refers to all temporary or non-permanent staff, including those engaged via an external recruitment agency, a Managed Service Provider (MSP), or the Trust’s internal “Staff Bank” where such an arrangement exists.

Timing and Cooperation: To ensure the data provided is accurate and aligned with your internal reporting cycles, I am happy to allow the necessary time for your teams to complete the December 2025 (Month 9) month-end close before running these reports. Accessible Healthcare for RNID Communities

I am writing to you from the RNID, the national charity supporting the 18 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.
Our communities tell us they can sometimes face difficulties can when seeking access to NHS care as a result of failure to meet their communication needs. As you will know, in 2016, NHS England introduced the Accessible Information Standard (AIS) – a document that sets out clear guidance on what must be done to make NHS and publicly funded social care services accessible to people with disability and sensory loss.
I would like to request some information from the NHS Trust that relates to accessible healthcare for RNID’s communities, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
1. What proportion of staff employed by the Trust have completed the NHS England e-learning module on the NHS Accessible Information Standard?
2. What proportion of the clinical staff employed by the Trust have completed the NHS England e-learning module on the NHS Accessible Information Standard?
3. Does the Trust offer training on deaf awareness to staff? If so, please specify how the training is delivered.
4. In the last five years, how many NHS complaints has the Trust received which primarily relate to a failure to provide care that is accessible to a person who is deaf or has hearing loss, and/or a failure to provide “reasonable adjustments” during the care of a person who is deaf or has hearing loss?
As you will know, “reasonable adjustments” are a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010, to make sure health services are accessible to disabled people. Reasonable adjustments in accessing NHS services for a person who is deaf or has hearing loss might include the provision of a BSL interpreter or other communication support professional, facing the patient and not speaking too quickly, or the provision of alternative contact methods to the telephone.

Play Team job titles and their definitions (not an exhaustive list):
• Health Play Specialists… are qualified and registered practitioners with the skills to safeguard children’s emotional and mental health during treatment and procedures through therapeutic play, and throughout their healthcare journeys. They will often also manage the play team. Health play specialists should have completed, or be completing, a qualification in Health Play Specialism.
• Playworkers/Activity worker… provide opportunities for children and young people to play, support them to play, engage with them through play and thereby build trusting relationships and communication.
• Youth workers/Young Person’s Worker… ensure adolescents receiving medical treatment can receive age-appropriate support, have their individual needs assessed and are referred to resources and services that align with their interests and needs. A youth worker is essential in supporting a young person into adult care, if required, and sourcing services that the young person can use to support them during this transition.
