Response published: 10 July 2026

FOI Request

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and/or Environmental Information Regulations 2004. There have been two periods this year when UKHSA has issued “amber” or “red” heat health alerts across much or all of England. These took place on the following dates: • 22-28 May 2026 • 18-27 June 2026 Please provide me with the following information for this NHS trust, for the dates listed above: • How many elective surgeries were cancelled by hospitals during these periods? If available, please provide a list that includes: o What each surgery was for. o The reason given for each cancellation, if one was provided – including whether heat was a factor, if this is recorded. • How many emergency surgeries were cancelled by hospitals during these periods? If available, please provide a list that includes: o What each surgery was for. o The reason given for each cancellation, if one was provided – including whether heat was a factor, if this is recorded. In addition, if the following information is available for the trust, can you also tell me: • How many surgical operations that were already underway were disrupted or forced to stop due to heat during these periods? Please provide the reason why the surgery was disrupted or halted, if this information is available. • Please also indicate if any of the disruptions or cancellations detailed above resulted in medical complications and/or fatalities. If you are only able to provide some of the information requested above, please do so. If you require any clarification, I expect you to contact me under your section 16 duty to provide advice and assistance if you find any aspect of this FOI request problematic. Please acknowledge receipt of this request. I look forward to receiving the information in the near future. Yours faithfully,
